General Information

The Ender 5 Plus can be found inside the Clean Room.

The purpose of this page is to give a more in-depth look at the Ender 5 Plus 3D Printer.

If you have any issues with Clean Room equipment, the slack channels associated with this space include: #general, ##general, #shop-3d-printing, and #shop-laser.

Filament

Material- PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, etc

  • PLEASE do not use old, moist filament in our printers. PLA especially. It will break off in multiple locations - both ends of the PTFE tube, inside the extruder, between the extruder and hotend. If I find a filament roll doing this, it will be retired

Brand-Most PLA and PETG available these days is of adequate quality. Sunlu, Polymaker and Overture are commonly used at the space

    • IIID Max is a great option if you're buying a lot. Free shipping and the lowest per kg prices right now
    • PushPlasticis my preferred vendor for large rolls. The filament spool holder I have available for the cr-10 max supports their rolls. Be wary, as the hole size for various vendors for 5kg+ spools can vary drastically.

Using the printer

Startup

Power Switch is to the left of the status screen on the front of the printer. Light switch for the enclosure is to the right back side, on the outside of the enclosure.

After the printer boots up, you can access the device interface by opening up OrcaSlicer, selecting the Ender 5 Plus printer profile, and clicking on the device Tab:

The first things I'd recommend doing is homing the Machine:

Ender 5 Plus toolhead interface

Clicking the [🏠 ALL] button will home the x, y and z axes. Make sure there is nothing that may obstruct any of these actions on the printer or bed!

After homing, I'd recommend moving the bed away from the nozzle (so theres room to purge when loading new filament). You can click [+25] on the Z axis as shown above, and that will lower the bed by 25mm.

Ender 5 Plus - Temperature Adjustment

On the device screen, you can find the temperature settings. The hotend and bed can be preheated here. You'll need to type in the melting temp of your filament in the extruder section (for example, 220 for PLA). The hotend has to be heated up in order to feed filament through it. If swapping between types of filament, it may make more sense to preheat to 250 before feeding in a lower temp filament, to help make sure older, higher temp filament makes its way out of the hotend.

After preheating the hotend, push your filament through the PTFE tube, into the extruder gears. Make sure the tip of your filament is straight and cut with the flush cutters at an angle.

Extruding filamet on the Ender 5 Plus

In the extruding section, make sure Filament Length is set to 50mm. Press the extrude button and make sure that the filament is being pulled into the extruder gearing. 50mm at 5mm/s should take 10 seconds to complete. You may need to extrude again to make sure your filament is fed all the way through.

Installing a print surface

Like the Bambu Printers, this printer has a removable build plate. We currently online have one surface available - a textured PEI sheet.
