The 3D printers can be found inside the Clean Room.
If you have any issues with Clean Room equipment, the slack channels associated with this space include: #general, ##general, #shop-3d-printing, and #shop-laser.
Orientation
The order of this document is to give some basic information of what will happen in the Clean Room during the training. This orientation assumes that they have gone through our general space orientation.
Do not operate any power equipment if you are under the influence of anything, in a hurry, are tired, or are not feeling well.
Inspect the equipment before using it.
Equipment
Bamboo 3D Printer
During the Orientation, you will be walked through the steps to set up and complete a print on the bamboo 3D Printer.
Printing with one color:
Members will go through some various 3D print websites and pick/download a design that you want to 3D print.
Members will unload any previous filament in the machine, and add your preferred filament into the machine through the small white tube sticking out the back of the machine.
Members will click load on the machine, and the machine should heat up, and purge the old filament. Make sure to check that the filament has been purged by looking at where it sticks out inside the machine.
Open Bamboo studio and add your print.
Look to make sure the plate in your machine, and the filament type matches what is put in Bamboo Studios.
Make sure you have the infill you want selected.
Add any necessary supports to the piece.
Slice the Plate, you should get an estimated time that the print will take.
Hit Print.
Stay with the print for the first few layers, to hopefully catch any early errors (You can click stop or pause when you notice these errors).
Afterwards remove your print and get rid of the filament that has been purged onto the plate while the machine was preparing.
Bamboo 3D Printer with AMS
During the Orientation, you will be walked through the steps to set up and complete a print on the bamboo 3D Printer.
Printing with multiple colors:
Members will go through various 3D print websites and pick/download a design that you want to 3D print.
Members will unload any previous filament in the machine, members will have to do this for each filament in the machine.
Members will put their filament into the AMS system, we recommend only using three of the four possible colors, as that is when most issues start to occur. We also recommend not using the filaments that are on cardboard as it often gets stuck on the machine.
Members will load the filament through a white tube on the inside of that machine. You will have to do this for every filament you use. Make sure to update the machine with what filament is in each slot.
Members will click load on the machine, and the machine should heat up, and purge the old filament. Make sure to check that the filament has been purged by looking at where it sticks out inside the machine.
Open Bamboo Studio and add your print.
Look to make sure the plate in your machine, and the filament type match what is put in Bamboo Studios.
Make sure you have the infill you want selected.
You can now click on the paint bucket and add the different colors to your print, you can change the color by adding filament through bamboo studio. Remember that when using this machine it creates a lot of wasted filament because it has to purge filament every time there is a color change, so be smart about where color changes occur.
Add any necessary supports to the piece.
Slice the Plate, you should get an estimated time that the print will take.

Resin 3D Printer
This will walk our potential members through the resin printing orientation.
Members will find a model they would like to print and download it. We recommend picking one that is high definition, so people can see how accurate the printer is.
After you download your file, go to Lychee (Resin 3D Printing Software)
Go to the Lychee slicer and add your file/s to the program (Remember, the taller your design, the longer it takes)
Click on model, and if to the right it says repair object, let it attempt to fix the print
Scale your project to the size that you want. (You can do this by hitting scale on the left-hand side, clicking the miniature, and clicking/dragging any box. There is a yellow box in the center that you have to move over to see, but it scales the entire thing down uniformly
Lift each model off the ground.
Rotate the model forward or backward (You want to make sure you're doing this in a way where the supports won't be extremely visible if they were to get stuck on your figure.
Members will then add supports to their figure, making sure no stray supports get left in the body.
Then you will hit prepare to prepare your model, which will give you some more options.
If needed, you can hollow your model (Typically you only do that with big resin prints, it's not worth doing on small ones.)
Add drainage holes if necessary.
Add a raft for your character (Should be automatically done with the supports if you did the automated ones)
Make sure before you export that you have the correct resin type
Export to files
Clean the surface of the resin printer
Put your file on a USB drive, turn on the resin printer, and select file. If you’ve cleaned the machine, click start
Stay with it while it is printing the first couple of layers, so you can see and stop anything that goes wrong.
Washing Station for Resin 3D Prints
This will walk our potential members through the resin printing orientation.
Wear nitrile gloves and breathing protection. Have paper towels ready, and protect the area from resin.
Remove your prints using a palette knife.
Place into the Washing Machine and turn on (It will go for 3 minutes). Continue cleaning until the water is clear.
Cut off any supports that do not come off with a wire cutter.
When finished turn off the washing machine (Button behind the machine)
If there is a resin failure, it is necessary to use the resin machine to harden some resin at the bottom and use something to scoop them out.
Take out the resin vat
Place funnel over resin container, and pour the resin into the container.
Clean the vat using Isopropyl alcohol.
Put the vat back into the machine.
Curing Station for Resin 3D Prints
This will walk our potential members through the resin printing orientation.
Place the cleaned design in the curing machine.
Turn on the curing machine.
Start curing machine (Runs for 3 Minutes).
Check the design for any places where resin hasn’t been cured.
If necessary, Put it back in the curing machine, and start it again.
When finished turn off the curing machine.
